The pastel-coloured wooden houses of Puu-Raksila

Puu-Raksila is a nationally valuable built cultural environment with its multi-coloured wooden houses. The buildings in the area date mainly from the 1930s-1940s and are representative of the classicist timber architecture of their time. Some of the apartment buildings have functionalist features.

As you move around the colourful Puu-Raksila, you'll notice that the wooden apartment blocks have been designed in a harmonious way in six large square blocks. The regular building pattern creates a coherent suburban area and the design is based on a coherent urban landscape. The leafy and green courtyards are spacious and you can see small outbuildings at the back of the courtyards. Puu-Raksila has its own peaceful atmosphere.

Formerly commercial buildings can be found on the central Park Street, which, as its name suggests, also features double wooden plantations. The Teuvo Pakkala School, completed in 1950, at the end of the street, is an integral part of the building's design, which was built especially for the Karjasilta residential area. Did you know that the Raksila area has also been called the "Iron Road"?
